Was recommended if in this area to play this course to test your tee shot placement. With eight (8) doglegs, hitting the corners to view the greens........was a challenge. The course offers no assistances in the way of write-ups or hole layout tips. With $43 walking only from 7am-8am off we went with the first tee time and playing the Blacks at 3,269/3,167yds for a 72.0 / 133 on this Par 36/36 rolling and swamp type layout. Starting out Front 9 with a meandering fairway of 460yds, this Par 5 had you shooting landing areas to avoid the "Cattails" boarding the fairway. The #2 a 381yd Par 4 is the first slight righthand dogleg and cattails line the fairway for those arrant shots. Fairways are in great shape with forced carries of 140-180yds on every hole from the Blacks. Greens were true and fast (8-10) but very firm on long irons coming in. The #4 is a 561yd Par 5 that has a creek carry of 230yds out with four (4) well places traps awaiting your second shot. That creek you just crossed is waiting for you on #5 a 409yd Par 4 at the same distance from the tee's. Another note on their yardage flags found down the middle. The colors (Red, White,Blue) are not always in correct order as most courses, so DON'T trust your eyes, check with GPS. The #6 is a nice 154yd, water on the RH side Par 3 with open short left-side. Number 7 is a 196yd Par 3 with water carry all the way to a longer looking green. The #8 a 359yd Par 4 has water carry off the tee to a green that's tucked to water on RH side of fairway. Finishing with a 386yd, Par 4, split fairway w/ water, Hcp 2 hole will have the range finder searching best landing area. (fade right tee shot worked for me.) Back 9 started with a 499yd Par 5 with a "C" shaped fairway around a swamp. From our landing area we had a 195yd carry across the swamp to a raised protected green. I told Jeremy, lets go for it and it resulted in ........two, two putt Birdies. The #12 a 382yd Par 4 is their Hcp 1 hole and its mainly of the 200yd shot to the corner of the dogleg, leaving 180yd uphill carry to the small green. Holes 14, 15,16 are all doglegs left that has you staying under a 200yd tee shot to hit landing areas for your 160-180yd 2nd shots in. The #17 is a long uphill narrow 502yd Hcp 3 Par 5 to a very small elevated green. The #18 is a wide open 383yd Par 4 that has Par written all over it, so you'll be coming back. When you're done here, there's no doubt in your why they named it "Cattails Golf Club" of South Lyon. Jeremy ended up shooting 40/41 w/36putts and I had 42/41 w/32putts as hitting greens from 180yds wasn't working out too well today. Worth the stop as easy walking layout in 3hrs but taking a cart would be much better choice.
